Dragonsteel Returns to FanX 2025

Sep 25, 20250 comments

There’s nothing like a home game, and that’s how it feels at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention every year. FanX was one of the first conventions Team Dragonsteel ever brought our booth to, and we’ve continued coming back year after year to connect with our amazing local community. This year is no exception, and we’re beyond excited to see you all.

Let’s get into it!

Sanderson on Stage: What to Expect

FanX Salt Lake City 2025 runs Thursday, Sept 25 through Saturday, Sept 27 at the Salt Palace Convention Center. You can find Team Dragonsteel at Booth #1361 (Hall 4) on the Vendor Floor all weekend long.

Here are the major events Brandon will be a part of during FanX:

  • Friday @ 3:00 PM – Battle of the Tropes: Sci-Fi/Fantasy Edition (Room 150A): Brandon joins authors Stephanie Carr, Brandon Mull, Veronica Roth, and K.X. Song for a lively discussion about beloved genre tropes. This is a Sci-Fi/Fantasy throwdown you won’t want to miss, especially with that all-star author lineup.
  • Saturday @ 2:30 PM – Spotlight on Brandon Sanderson (Grand Ballroom): Brandon’s solo spotlight panel. He’ll talk about upcoming projects, answer fan questions, and share some exclusive news and sneak peeks with the audience. (If you were at last year’s FanX panel, you know big surprises tend to drop here—and we will be sure to recap the highlights on our blog afterward for those who can’t attend.) Brandon will be reading from Moment Zero, the new story from his upcoming release, Tailored Realities.

In addition to these panels, Brandon will be doing free signing sessions at our booth. Note: All of these autograph sessions required an online reservation in advance, and as of now every slot is fully booked (thank you for the overwhelming response!). If you did snag a reservation, awesome—we’ll see you at your timeslot!

New Worlds, New Wares

With our bigger booth this year, we’re fully stocked for Salt Lake City!

  • The Classics: Expect our usual selection of Dragonsteel swag and books—from gorgeous leatherbound editions and premium hardcovers to fan-favorite apparel and a trove of collectible pins.
  • International Debuts: We’re also offering some items that only overseas fans have seen so far. Back in July, Team Dragonsteel popped up in Spain for the Celsius 232 festival, where we debuted a few exclusive goodies. For the first time in the U.S., you can snag the Luthadel Travel T-Shirt, the Worldhopper Travel Umbrella, and the matching Worldhopper Canvas Tote Bag we first introduced in Avilés (the umbrella was very handy in rainy Spain). We’ll also have the new Cosmere pins that premiered there, so if you’ve been waiting to get your hands on the Yumi Sandershelf pin or the latest character pins, now’s your chance.
  • Brand-New Releases: Of course, we didn’t come to FanX empty-handed! Here’s a peek at all-new merchandise making its first appearance this weekend:
    • Cosmere Travel T-Shirts: Our postcard tee collection just expanded to three new Cosmere locales. Represent your favorite fantastical destination with our new Elantris, Forests of Hell, and Patji travel tees. (If you grabbed the Urithiru, T’Telir, or Luthadel shirts earlier this year, you know how cool these look)
    • Isles of Emberdark Sandershelf Pin Set: A special pin set inspired by Isles of the Emberdark. This Sandershelf collection pin is perfect for those building out your mini Cosmere bookshelves. It’s making its debut at FanX, so collectors, be sure to grab one early.
    • New Cosmere Character Pins: We’ve added seven new characters to our Cosmere character pin series! Fan-favorite faces from across the cosmere are now immortalized in pin form: Marasi (Mistborn Era 2), Rysn (Stormlight Archive), Hrathen (Elantris), Dusk (Sixth of the Dusk), Lightsong and Blushweaver (Warbreaker), and Wayne (Mistborn Era 2). Yes, Wayne finally gets a pin! It definitely captures his roguish charm.
    • Cosmere Ties and Scarves: Ever wanted to infuse a bit of Cosmere subtlety into your formal attire? Now you can. We’re unveiling Cosmere-themed neckties (choose from a sharp blue or vibrant red design) and matching scarves in the same colors.
    • Cosmere Pet Collar: This one’s for the four-legged cosmere fans at home. We have a brand-new pet collar so your dog or cat can show off their fandom pride! It’s adjustable, too!

Recruitment Continues Across the Cosmere (+ Have You Read the Tabloids Lately?!)

By now, many of you know the drill: the Silverlight Bureau of Perpendicularity Regulation and Inter-Realmatic Transport (try saying that five times fast) will be recruiting again at FanX. In past events, our intrepid team has been conducting a cosmere-wide recruiting effort and FanX will be no different. The Bureau is back, and they want YOU (yes, you!) to join their ranks.

For those unfamiliar, this is an interactive convention game we run where you complete tasks around the event to earn a free and exclusive prize.

Here’s the setup: strange things are afoot in the cosmere. The Bureau has received reports of unprecedented anomalies spreading across multiple worlds—disturbances that threaten to upend life from Scadrial to Roshar. To investigate and contain these anomalies, they need field agents on the ground. That’s where the fans come in.

If you visited us at Celsius 232 in Spain, C2E2 in Chicago, or other recent events, you might have already encountered the Silverlight Bureau of Perpendicularity Regulation and Inter-Realmatic Transport (and met agents like Xzortphylos “Phyl” and the backbone of the bureau, the ever-stressed B’Barbra). At FanX, the Bureau’s narrative continues!

Word on the streets (well, in the tabloids) is that the Bureau has hired a celebrity operative: the notorious explorer Min Fahl, famed wanderer of Nalthis. His hiring has caused quite a stir. Rumors even link him romantically to our own Agent B’Barbra, much to Phyl’s chagrin.

How to Play

If you’re interested in joining the fun, simply stop by our booth! Every FanX attendee who wants to participate can receive a small field assignment, and once you’ve completed your tasks, you can bring your completed brochure back to the booth for your prize.

We won’t spoil the ending, but let’s just say this is all leading up to something big (Dragonsteel Nexus 2025 is just a couple months away, after all).

See You at Booth 1361!

That’s the rundown, Worldhoppers! We couldn’t be more thrilled to kick off FanX 2025 with our local community. Whether you’re coming for the panels, the merch, the convention game, or just to say hi, thank you for being a part of what makes events like this so special for us. Safe travels to the convention, all!
