The Cognitive Realm
The ChasmFriends made their debut at Dragonsteel Nexus 2024 and promptly captured the hearts of everyone who met them—and now, as part of Hoid's Storybook Collection, they're ready for their close-up.
In the fourth book of the Stormlight Archive, Kaladin was assaulted by his enemies, trapped in a bleak dream where all the world hates him. As he struggled with visions of those he felt he had failed and the weight of moving forward became almost too much, Wit found him trapped in this illusion and offers an illusion of his own: the story of a dog who wanted to become a dragon. “Hint: that’s impossible. A dog can’t become a dragon.” While the dog’s quest may be destined for failure, he might just become a hero along the way.
Who is Hoid? I think if you asked him, he would tell you that he is a storyteller. That’s just the way it went down in The Way of Kings, when Kaladin chanced upon Hoid on a stormless night on the Shattered Plains.
The Girl Who Looked Up asks what happens when someone dares to question what they've always been told. It's a story about walls, and what it costs to cross them. Over the next four weeks, we'll be exploring the other stories in Hoid's Storybook Collection the same way.
Dragonsteel has pulled out all the stops for The Eye of the World. The genuine Italian leather is striking in bright red, with exquisite pressing and gilding layered with symbolism from the Wheel of Time. The endpapers show off the original cover art, contrasting the red and gold exterior with the familiar midnight blue of Darrel K. Sweet’s 1990 epic fantasy painting.
