Whether you're in London this week or following along from somewhere else entirely, this one's for you! Brandon Sanderson and Team Dragonsteel have officially arrived, the mists are atmospheric and entirely on-brand, and we have a full week of events, exclusives, and more ahead. Here's your complete guide to finding us.
Now Through Thursday, May 21: The Forbidden Planet Pop-Up
We've taken over part of Forbidden Planet's London megastore and we're fully set up with Dragonsteel merch, exclusive London-only products (more on those below), and pre-signed copies of Brandon's books while supplies last.
No ticket, no badge, no reservation needed. This is a new format for us, so if you want to see more of these pop-up shops, showing up is the best way to make that happen! If you can’t make it in person, engaging with our online content also helps us to know that you’d like to see more of these events.
Tonight, May 19: Brandon Sanderson Gives the Tolkien Lecture at Pembroke College, Oxford
Tonight, Brandon Sanderson is giving the annual J.R.R. Tolkien lecture on fantasy literature at Pembroke College, Oxford. Tolkien built the imaginative architecture that modern fantasy lives inside, and Brandon has spent his career expanding what's possible within it. We’re thrilled to be celebrating this incredible moment!
While tickets are sold out, we’ll be posting the full speech on Brandon’s blog shortly after it concludes, and you can watch the event on Brandon’s YouTube channel in collaboration with Pembroke College soon afterwards. We’ll keep you posted.
Thursday Evening, May 21: Brandon in Conversation with Joe Abercrombie
Thursday night, Brandon sits down with Joe Abercrombie at the Emmanuel Centre for an evening presented by Waterstones. If you caught Brandon and Joe’s last conversation on stage, you know this is going to be a fantastic time! In-person seats are sold out, but livestream tickets are still available for £5 so you can be in the moment from wherever you are. As always, the full event will make its way to Brandon's YouTube channel afterward for free.
If you want to be there in real time, grab a ticket here.
Friday–Sunday, May 22–24: MCM London Comic Con
MCM runs all weekend at ExCeL London, and the Dragonsteel booth will be fully stocked for all three days. Come find us and browse our wares! We’ve brought some exclusives just for you. These items are available at the Forbidden Planet pop-up shop and MCM London Comic Con alike.
Here are few things made the journey across the Atlantic that won't be available in the online store just yet:
- Mistborn Jacket: A black-and-grey softshell with Allomantic symbols detailed in red. Designed for navigating the London mists.
- Mistborn Kredik Shaw Bookends: Laser-cut metal silhouette of the Lord Ruler's palace, a Mistborn arcing through the mist above it. We’re bringing these back from the Year of Sandersons
- New Pins: Character pins Series 4 featuring Sarene and Sazed, plus Sandershelf sets for Elantris and The Sunlit Man.
And, of course, we’ll have our usual lineup of leatherbounds, signed premium hardcovers, tons of pins, and more.
There are still tickets available for Brandon’s spotlight panel on Saturday, May 23 at 2PM. It’s available to MCM badge holders, but you’ll want to grab a free reservation to save your spot!
The Story Doesn't Stay in London
The best stories have a way of traveling. Whether you’re here with us in person for these events or will be following along online, rest assured we’re going to do our best to bring the story to you. Brandon's YouTube channel will have the Oxford lecture in collaboration with Pembroke College, the Abercrombie conversation, and Brandon’s spotlight panel from MCM. The Cognitive Realm and Dragonsteel's social accounts will have full coverage all week!
Dragonsteel events are about the community that shows up for them, wherever that community happens to be! All to say, however you're joining us this week, we're glad you're here.

Dude the Hoodie goes so hard
Hi! Do we know where we can find the list of participating bookstores carrying the commemorative coin?
Thank you for this email newsletter! If this didn’t land in my inbox when it did I would have totally missed this. I got a chance to run over and grab some merch at the pop up today after work :)
I am begging you to tell me that you know that Pembroke College, Oxford isn’t in London.
Would also be good to have confirmation that someone’s taught Brandon how to pronounce “Pembroke” correctly.
